Abstract des Autors

The terms ‘governance’ and ‘good governance’ are being increasingly used in the sports-law and sports-politics literature. Simply put, ‘governance’ means the process of decision-making and the process by which decisions are implemented (or not implemented). Good governance means that policies and procedures are in place to ensure an organisation is run well. Characteristics and principles of good governance have been set out since the 1990s by intergovernmental organisations, including the World Bank, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia, and the Pacific and the European Union, by the research community and by various authorities in sport. By 2013 there were no less than 35 lists of principles for good governance in sports, the most prominent being the International Olympic Committee’s “Basic Universal Principles of Good Governance of the Olympic and Sports Movement”. The implementation of good governance standards and principles in sport ensures that sports governing bodies are not vulnerable and can cope with certain risks that they might face. Good governance can also ensure sustainability for the organisation and its activities, through a more robust structure, resistant to the various risks facing sport and with a clear long-term strategy. This is the first bibliography in NSA dealing with both the political and administrative aspects of governance and good governance in sports. lt contains 102 books and articles, from the years 1982 to 2017.
