Abstract des Autors

Congenital malformations of the heart and vessels occur in 5-9 per 1.000 live births. Approximately 85% of the patients born with congenital malformations of the heart and vessels survive into adult life. With improved life expectancy, growing attention is given to the question of whether and to what extent physical activity should be recommended in order to improve the quality of life. This chapter focus on the safety and impact of physical activity and exercise training in children, adolescents and adults with congenital heart disease. The participation in structured medically supervised exercise training may be helpful to catch up limitations in exercise capacity and educate the patient in order to provide him/her with the knowledge and self-esteem necessary to take up physically active lifestyle and regular exercise training on his/her own.
