Abstract des Autors
In the article “Towards a Grand Unified Theory of sports performance” Glazier puts forth a theory to explain sports performance. The basic thesis is that sports performance is the result of a complex interaction including many factors and that current research reality does not reflect this assumption as most research studies are based on mono disciplinary approaches. To overcome this shortcoming an expanded version of the classical constraint framework introduced by Newell (1986) is suggested. First of all, we would like to applaud the author for his bold attempt as it is by no means an easy task to attempt to unify the various subdisciplines of sports science and the accompanying branches of sports performance into a single theory, and we are entirely supportive of this endeavor. However, we have several problems with the Grand Unified Theory (GUT) as currently formulated as well as some points of agreement.
