Abstract des Autors

A lot of studies confirm that regular physical activity can help maintain and improve cognitive functions in older adults. But it is unknown which kind of physical activity contributes positively to brain activity. We assume that age-related karate training helps to prevent cognitive declining in older age. Our hypothesis is that age-related karate training has a positive impact on common cognitive functioning, motor reactivity, reactive stress tolerance, and divided attention in older adults compared to common fitness training or even without special sports programs. Furthermore, we assume that karate training of older adults could have an additional effect the reduction of falling risk. This is due to the fact that karate exercises train balance and muscles of the whole body. (geändert)
