Abstract des Autors

In 1907, seven mountaineering enthusiasts from the city of Stuttgart founded the Ski Club Steinbühlhütte (SCS) and built a ski hut at the Kalten Feld (781 meters above sea level), 60 kilometres from Stuttgart. The population of the adjacent village, Degenfeld supported them, and this involvement led the farmers in the village to take up skiing and to found their own club. The Ski Club Degenfeld (SCD) was founded in 1922, and in the period following the members organised skiing competitions together with the Ski Club Steinbühlhütte (SCS). Hence, there were joint activities of rural and urban populations, but each group was organised into its own club. The following article examines the way in which these two ski clubs came into being, and how the early developments at the Kalten Feld, a mountain at the edge of the Schwäbische Alb (situated in Baden-Württemberg), took place in the first decades of the 20th century. The focus of this paper is on the process of foundation of both clubs, and on the activities of these clubs in their first years. Particular attention will therefore be on the reciprocal influence of the development process and the cooperation of both clubs. The research is based upon the analysis of documents – clubs' chronicles, articles of association of the clubs, guest books from the ski hut, and other archival records, and the results are arranged and interpreted from a socio-historic point of view. Therefore the study is based on a concept of sports clubs as corporate actors in which individual actors combine their resources to realise common club goals. The following questions will be asked: What were the ideas and aims of the founders of the Ski Club Steinbühlhütte (SCS), and how did the establishment process proceed between 1907 and 1910? Which activities signal the club life of the SCS in the first years after the foundation of the club? How did the foundation of the Ski-Club Degenfeld (SCD) progress in 1922 and what specific roles did the members of the SCS play? During the 1920s how was the contact between the SCS and the SCD cultivated and combined activities implemented? (geändert)
