Abstract des Autors

Special ergometers have been used in training and also for testing to simulate double poling. Bilodeau et al. (1995) suggested that ergometer tests simulating upper-body work predict skiing performance better than treadmill tests by running. Holmberg and Nilsson (2008) compared double poling with ski ergometer to skiing on snow and found a strong correlation in power on a six-minute test between the conditions. Despite these findings there is still a lack of knowledge whether the biomechanics of the movement are similar when using ergometers as they are during natural skiing conditions. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to compare cycle characteristics, force production, and muscle activation between double poling on snow and double poling using an ergometer.
