Abstract

Becca Leopkey and Milena M. Parent look specifically at the links between the different organising bodies that were involved in putting on the Vancouver Winter Olympics of 2010. They see the entire process in four phases from conception, to planning, to knowledge transfer and finally post-Games governance. The IOC plays a leading role in the first two phases but tends to withdraw from knowledge transfer and post-Games governance. Indeed, sporting bodies as a whole tend to be less involved as time passes and the non-sporting bodies concerned with tourism, heritage and environment take a larger role. This is a potential structural weakness, which future organisers should take on board and the IOC and FIFA in particular should address. Aus der Einleitung des Sammelbandes
