Abstract

In arguing a broader social science of sport and leisure management, both the general introduction to this collection in Volume I and the contents of the first three volumes have maintained that the field of sport and leisure management should be about more than managing sport and leisure operations. It is for this reason that this volume on "Managing Sport and Leisure Operations" is located as the fourth volume in the set, as it is intended that the first three volumes provide important context for the management of, for example, facilities, human resources and finance in sport. However, that is not to underplay the importance of a clear and detailed knowledge of management processes, principles and issues for sport and leisure managers, and this volume covers these topics in five sections. First, sports finance and economics is explored, focusing both on the models that underpin sport finance and the ways in which the economic value of sport and sporting events can be assessed. Second, sport facility and service management is adressed, focusing on service quality and service interfaces in sport facilities. Third, the marketing of sport and leisure is explored, both through overviews of the sport marketing field and through specific sport marketing examples. Fourth, human resource management in sport is adressed, both in national and local organisations and in the not-for-profit sector. Finally, the volume explores how the impacts of sport and leisure are managed, largely through examining the impacts of sports events. Aus der Einführung
