Abstract des Autors

Aim of this paper is to give a coherent overview of the history of German climbing in the Liberec region, which is based on the primary sources and on the research of the contemporary literature. Since the main climbing organizations in this area was the Deutscher Alpenverein Reichenberg (DAV Liberec), is the history of this organization a central theme of this paper. The time period is exactly determined by the existence of this organization: since 1893 until 1938. The first part deals with the history of the DAV Reichenberg from its foundation until the beginning of the First World War, when this organization was incorporated into the German organization. There are also information regarding the increase of the membership. In next parts of the paper I describe first of all the activities of the members of DAV Reichenberg. Very significant were sporting achievements of some members, whether in the Czech climbing areas or abroad (mainly in the Alps). Other not so performance focused members organized tourist trips around Liberec. To enhance the visibility of the organization among citizens and for obtaining financial contributions, the members organized periodic lectures and once a year the winter celebration. The most important activity was for all members the construction of their own hut in the Alps. The first hut was built in the Dolomites before World War I. Due to post-war arrangement lost the DAV Reichenberg this shelter and therefore was built in the 20th the second hut in Defregger Alpen. The activity of DAV Liberec is a model example of an alpine clubs, as evidenced by further research concentrating on other sections in the Czech Republic. Verf.-Referat
