Sensation seeking tendency and student’s learning style preferences – pilot study
The article presents a pilot study, which searches for relationship between sensation seeking tendency and preferred learning style of students in a general knowledge oriented and physical education oriented high school class and which seeks for influence of the factors in view on detached variables. The paper presents existing knowledge of sensation seeking and learning styles, which is represented by Kuban (2006), Dunn (2001), Lovelace (2005), Ang and Woo (2003) or Rybenský (2008) and Krásová and Rost (2008) and objectives and hypotheses are defined in relation to it. The study’s objective is to prove or disprove relationship between the level of sensation seeking tendency and preferred learning style of students from physical education oriented and general knowledge oriented high school class and to describe this relationship. Based on a questionnaire enquiry using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and Cohen’s d the working hypotheses H1 is accepted: there is a statistically significant relationship between sensation seeking tendency (SSS-V) or some of its subscales and students‘ preferred learning style. The study accepts working hypotheses H 2: students with above-average level of SSS-V or of some of its subscales prefer significantly more experiential learning than students with average or below-average level. Based on method of divergent groups working hypotheses H 3 is rejected: students with the highest sensation seeking tendency and the highest experiential learning preferences mostly attend physical education oriented class. In discussion part sub-results with statistical significance, possible matters and distortions and follow-up research are analysed. Verf.-Referat
