Abstract

With the development of sports practices, public actors have become aware of the necessity to modernize sports facilities. Faced with this observation, this study aims to provide an assessment of the performance of public sports facilities, more specifically based on the value attributed to the facilities by individuals practising sport. The authors firstly consider the global value of a sports facility, working from the model developed by Aurier, Evrard and N'Goala, which integrates both transactional and relational marketing approaches of value. Secondly, they show to what extent a cognitive approach can be considered as a relevant methodology to permit exploration of the main actors' mental representations regarding sports equipment's global value (by main actors the authors refer to the elected town councillors in charge of sport and the town sports service directors). The objective of this chapter is to provide an assessment of the performance management of these practices based on value and to gain an understanding of the representation of the value of such equipment by individuals practising sport.
