Abstract

Since 2001, we have evaluated the performance of balance in elderly adults (Lippens & Nagel, 2001). As a parameter, the one-legged stance on a balance board is measured. During sport journeys, we quantify the increase of balance performance from the beginning to the end of the course (Lippens et al., 2003). In 2002 all participants improved their ability on both legs, however, subjects who had repeatedly attended the course – in the years 2001 and 2002 - showed a higher performance of balance at the beginning and the end compared with subjects who debuted in the year 2002 (ANOVA: main effect of participation F(1, 48)= 8.520, p < .005; main effect of time F(1, 48)= 11.033, p < .002). Consequently, our interest in research is to determine if this training effect remains stable over the years. Einleitung
