Abstract des BISp
Abstract des Autors
In the period from 1950 to 1991, a number of attempts were made to include golf in the Olympic Programme. Who made these proposals, which federations were involved and what reactions came from the International Olympic Committee? The sources for this study were found in various archives: IOC (especially the Brundage Microfilm Collections), International Golf Federation (former WAGC), Australian Olympic Committee and the German Golf Archives. First of all, the research started with analysing the minutes of the organisations, golf magazines and the correspondences of acting persons. In 1908 and 1916 an Olympic golf tournament was scheduled, however, did not take place. Beginning with the midfifties the IOC received several proposals supporting golf as an Olympic sport from individuals, IOC- Members or the professional golf business. However, it wasn’t until the end of the 1980s that the international golf organisations started cooperating, and in 1991 the World Amateur Golf Council was recognized by the IOC.
