Abstract

A patellar tendon rupture is a rare injury with several probable causes. The case reported is a 'spontaneous’ patellar tendon rupture in a trained athlete during jogging. After chirurgical treatment, the rehabilitation was problematic, eventually leading to a second opinion in which an infrapatellar contracture syndrome was diagnosed. There is little information about 'spontaneous' patellar tendon ruptures, the rehabilitation and postoperative complications. For both the surgeon and physiotherapist it is important to be able to recognize and treat complications in an early stage of the rehabilitation. The immobilization method and period together with physical exercise are important in the prevention of postoperative complications. Abstract

Een patellapeesruptuur is een zeldzame aandoening, waaraan verschillende oorzaken ten grondslag kunnen liggen. Er wordt een casus beschreven van een getrainde sporter die een 'spontane' patellapeesruptuur opliep tijdens het hardlopen. De revalidatie na operatief herstel van de ruptuur verliep moeizaam en leidde tot een second opinion waarbij een infra patellar contracture syndrome vastgesteld werd. In de literatuur is weinig bekend over "spontane" patellapeesrupturen, de revalidatie en postoperatieve complicaties na operatief herstel. Het is voor de (para)rnedicus van belang vroegtijdig complicaties te herkennen en te behandelen. Oe wijze en periode van immobilisatie en oefentherapie spelen een grote rol in het voorkomen van complicaties. Deze casus beschrijft de mogelijke oorzaken voor het ontstaan van een patellapeesruptuur, de postoperatieve complicaties en de behandeling daarvan bij een duursporter. Verf.-Referat
