| abstract |
The aim of present study was to investigate selected indices of body composition of Lithuanian national men handball players of different positions. Body length dimensions were measured with Martin anthropometre, body parts circumferences using metric tape, The analysis was performed in Vilnius in July 2005, one day before a tournament match against a Spanish team. 17 Lithuania's national team members participated in the analysis and they were divided into the groups by their playing positions – lines 1 and 2 and goalkeeping. The obtained data was compared internally subject to the players’ playing positions. The obtained data has revealed that the players of the Lithuania’s national team are tall and very tall. Their height and body mass differ depending on their playing position. The tallest are line 2 players and goal keepers. However, the age indicators’ average in the various playing positions did not differ significantly, although there is a tendency for the goalkeepers to be somewhat older than the other players. Line 1 players have symmetrical lower extremities’ dimensions. Line 2 players’ right hand and forearm dimensions are significantly larger than their left, while their left wrist dimensions are significantly larger than their right. Line 2 players’ chest dimensions are larger than those of other positions. Line 2 players differ significantly from players of other positions with their forearm dimensions. Goalkeepers and line 1 players’ dimension indicators do not differ significantly. Verf.-Referat |
