abstract Die IAAF hat verschiedene Aktivitäten im Bereich des Jugendtrainings und hinsichtlich der Anwendung sportwissenschaftlicher Erkenntnisse für das Training mit Jugendliche initiiert. Das Ziel dieser Aktivitäten bestand in der Entwicklung altersgemäßer Programme, die den jungen Sportlern optimale Gelegenheiten geben, ihre Entwicklung zu Elitesportlern zu realisieren. Hand in Hand mit diesen Aktivitäten ging auch der Einsatz der IAAF um die Schaffung von Wettkampfgelegenheiten für junge Sportler, wie z. B. Welt- und kontinentale Meisterschaften für Junioren sowie Jugendweltmeisterschaften. Verf. erläutern die Notwendigkeit eines geeigneten Wettkampfprogramms, das die Probleme des Wachstums, der frühen Spezialisierung und des Dropouts berücksichtigt. Im Fazit empfehlen Verf. dass die IAAF eine Arbeitsgruppe einrichtet, die den gesamten Bereich der Programmgestaltung für die Jugendleichtathletik untersucht und bearbeitet. Schiffer
