Abstract des Autors

Exercise psychology has focused on two research questions, namely, which factors contribute to exercise adoption and maintenance, and which effects can be attributed to exercise. A predominant concern during the last decade has been the influence of the self on exercise and vice versa. Results and ways of measuring self-concept and self-efficacy are presented. Motivational determinants of exercise, one of the oldest topics, are discussed briefly. Although the measurement of transient states, namely moods and affects, has a longer research tradition, it is still a controversial issue. Discussion evolves around questions like exercise-specific vs. domain-general instruments and conceptual frameworks for research. Conclusions for future research in exercise psychology are drawn from a cross-cultural perspective. Verf.-Referat
