Abstract
A great majority of sport disciplines requires strength, power or a combination of both. The selection criteria, control of training effects and exercise procedures still arise many controversies. The research project included 24 highly trained athletes, representatives of 6 strength-speed sport disciplines (powerlifters, bodybuilders, olympic weightlifters, long jumpers, triple jumpers, javelin throwers). All of the subjects performed explosive and maximal strength and power tests for the upper and lower limbs. Somatic measurements such as: body weight and height, foot, leg, hand, arm length, forearm, arm, calf, hip and chest thigh circumference, hip and shoulder width were taken. Also were calculated lean body mass (LBM) and the Manouviere index. On the basis of achieved results it must be concluded that anaerobic power, maximal and explosive strength are only partially correlated and different somatic characteristics influence their level. Selection and training procedures for particular sport disciplines should be very specific to the demand. Verf.-Referat
