Seven young swimmers (4 males and 3 females), of national level, were studied. Two video cameras (JVC GR-SX 1 SVHS) were used simultaneously. One camera was set in an underwater window on a lateral wall of the pool, obtaining images on the sagittal plane. The other camera was set on the forehead wall of the pool, obtaining images on the transverse plane. The images were evaluated using the «Peak 5 - Motion Measurement System», from Peak Performance Technology, Inc. The results of this study pointed out that: 1. analysing the images obtained on the sagittal plane, there weren't significant differences on the kinematics of any corporal segment studied, except for the head; 2. the maximal vertical amplitude of the head displacement and the slope of the head displacement are significantly smaller when using lateral inspiration; 3. the minimal angle between the head and the horizontal plane and the minimal angle between the dorsal fin and the horizontal plane are significantly smaller using lateral inspiration; 4. the maximal angle between the shoulders and the horizontal plane is significantly higher using lateral inspiration; 5. it seems there is a rotation around the longitudinal axis of the whole body when lateral inspiration has been used.
