Abstract

The first part of this edition, entitled "Revelation", explains how Coubertin developed his ideas, documenting the ever-prominent educational dimension of his work. This side of Coubertin, in both his youth and later life, is largely unknown. A total of 46 documents are grouped together in chapters headed "The Search for a New Education", "Permanency of the Educational Battle" and "The String of Events". Although only a third of the texts included in the French volume entitled "Revelation" appear in this English version, these essays nevertheless help to explain the philosophical and anthropological foundations of Coubertin's Olympism. The second part of this collection, under the heading "Olympism", portrays the whole breadth of Coubertin's Olympic thinking, actions and feelings. 145 of his writings are presented under the following three main themes: 1.
