Abstract des Autors

Ten boys of short stature associated with simple delay of puberty were examined to determine the status of exercise capacity and body composition. All boys were at or below the 3rd centile for height, and most at the 3rd centile for weight. There was a mean difference of 2.3 years between chronological and bone age. When plotted on the basis of chronological age absolute values of maximal oxygen uptake were positioned well below the 10th centile. Plotted against bone age values moved closer to the 10th centile with a few boys taking up a position within normal limits. Maximal oxygen uptake values expressed relative to body weight gave values much closer to normal status. This pattern of events was also true for PWC 170. Percentage total body fat ranged from 4.3% to 26.4%, there being a significant difference in the amounts determined from the equations of Siri (1956) and Lohman, Boileau and Slaughter (1984).
