Abstract des Autors

Intercollegiate track and field is a time-honored sport with much history and glory. Yet, little has been done to keep the sport in the interest of the print media, its readers, and society in general. It is now common to find the stands relatively empty with little interest from the public and the print media. This disinterest concerns today's track & field community. The current authors recently conducted a study to determine why the print media's coverage of intercollegiate track and field has decreased. Although coaches, fans, the media and track and field meet directors have forwarded many suggestions concerning the reason behind the apparent decline of track and field; there has never been a formal study of this issue. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine some of the reasons behind the lack of print media coverage of intercollegiate track & field, and to present several recommendations to improve its status.
