Abstract

Flatwater kayaking and waterpolo according their to their respective training load and training exercise structure are basically aerobic sports. Considering the above-mentioned, body composition and spiroergometric data of the two sport branch specific sample should not have significant differences in their maximal values. Up until now no comparative data is available in the literature about world class waterpolo players and kayakers concerning their cardiopulmonary system and body composition. The purpose of the study was to measure the physiological capacity of the cardiopulmonary system of kayakers and waterpolo players selected from the Hungarian National Team. It was, also, aimed to compare the anthropometric and spiroergometric data of waterpolo players and kayakers. We assumed that despite of the two sport events requiring high level aerobic capacity, the different, sport specific requirements and training influence the same parameters differently. Nine waterpolo players members of the World Cup winning team - the goal keeper excluded- and nine kayakers Olympic or World Championships champions or medallists were taken for anthropometric and spiroergometric analysis.
