The sprains of the anterior lateral ligament of the thumb are frequent during sports practising, particularly during skiing accidents in case of falling down onto the hand. The assesment of their gravity is based on a clinical examination which has to take into account the aspect of the thumb, the passive mobility of the metacarpophalangeal joint (MP), the presence or absence of a laxity of the inner capsuloligament plane, the painful spot when palpated. The standard X-ray examination and the ligament scan are the two examinations likely to define the importance of the lesions. The treatment must be rationally established basing itself on a fundamental element: the presence or absence of a Stener's lesion. Verf.-Referat
