Abstract des Autors

Foot-ground interfaces are materials and equipment placed between the foot and the ground surface. Frequently the interface is a street shoe with a leather sole and a leather upper, but the special demands of sports require foot-ground interfaces that provide specific biomechanical characteristics to help athletes perform more effectively and safely. This introductory chapter presents the basic biomechanical principles important to the design of the shoe; it also addresses the important structural characteristics of the lower extremity and foot that influence the fitting of footwear (no two feet are exactly the same, even if they are the same size).
