Abstract des Autors
The number of hospital treatments for injuries due to inline skating has risen enormously since 1994. Between 1994 and 1997 the number of injuries has quadruplicated. Most victims are children in the age group of 5 to 14 years, although there is a growing number of victims in the older age groups. Most injuries are wrist or lower arm fractures. 6% of the victims have to be admitted to the hospital. Health gain may especially be expected from the use of personal protective equipment. Therefore the Consumer Safety Institute started a campaign aimed at safe skating. Also clear legislation for skaters in traffic is needed. In most accidents, however, no other road user is involved but the skater. Verf.-Referat
