Abstract des Autors

A partnership between coach and sports scientists has lead to important concepts regarding the way in which sports science can be of the most practical benefit in the development of athletes, both in terms of technique and of results. The authors outline four phases of development, from the initial stages of learning, to the refining of the skill, to the subconscious execution of the skill and, finally, to the revision of the skill. They then offer strategies for dealing with each of these phases. The significant role played by the kinaesthetic feelings of the athlete during the execution of a skill is stressed and emphasis is also placed on the importance of immediate feedback to both the athlete and the coach. Several examples are given of how special apparatus designed to supply this immediate feedback was able to provide speedy solution to puzzling technical problems. Verf.-Referat
