Abstract des Autors
During rehabilitation and fitness programs, one tissue that is usually addressed during a flexibility program is the iliotibial band (ITB). This structure is a large wide band of fascial tissue that originates anteriorly at the tensor fascia latae, laterally at the iliac crest, and posteriorly along the gluteus maximus. The ITB courses distally along the lateral thigh to insert along the lateral tibial plateau. Tightness within the ITB can be a cause of both hip and knee pain. The difficulty in addressing this tissue during a flexibility program is trying to stretch the tissue while stabilizing its origin at the pelvis. This can be most difficult when dealing with a large individual. This new method for stretching the ITB uses a modified Thomas Test position. It can be easily performed by the clinician and instructed to patients for home use. Verf.-Referat
