Abstract des Autors

The major purpose of this study was to determine whether individuals who are more accurate in muscular force reproduction have certain electromyographic pattern characteristics which would distinguish them as a group as opposed to individuals who as a group are less accurate reproducers. Pattern characteristics measured included rate of muscle action potential production, variability in rate of muscle action potential production, and amount of intertrial muscle action potential activity. Results supported the following conclusions: 1) more accurate individuals, as a group, produce a significantly lower rate of muscle action potential production, 2) more accurate individuals, as a group, are significantly more variable in rate of muscle action potential production, 3) the degree of relaxation between trials is not related to success in reproducing the standard task, and 4) as accuracy increases, muscle action potential characteristics of rate and variability in rate of production follow different trends.
