Abstract des Autors

The relationship between max VO2, as predicted by the Astrand Bicycle-Ergometer Test, and 1/2-mile, 1-miel, 12-min. run, and 5-mile running performances has been investigated. The subject population included representatives from three diverse ability subgroups of college males: 1) non-athletic students; 2) physical education majors; and 3) varsity cross-country runners. Within the composite group (N=34) the relationship between estimated oxygen uptake (ml/kg/min) and 12-min run performance was r=.63. Among the ability subgroups the predicted oxygen uptake-performance relationship decreased as a function of increasing performance capabilities. Conversely, this same relationship sequentially increased as a function of distance. Verf.-Referat
