Abstract des Autors

Expressing the results of a comparative study of the bodily build, anthropometric and hormonal characteristics of male wrestlers of "Leonese" Wrestling (n=25) with an average age, weight and size of 22.08+/-3.25 years of age, 76.73+/-9.91 kg and 174.30+/-6.75 cm, using the skin-fold method, spectrophotometry by near infra-red and the study of the presence of cortisol and testosterone in saliva. For the comparative study with the wrestlers, a control group of 20 cross-country runners with average age, weight and size of 25.08+/-1.49 years, 70.90+/-3.68 kg and 171.80+/-2.07 cm was used. The methodology for obtaining the anthropometric measurements was that accepted by the IGK (International Group of Kinanthropometry), described by Carter et al. and by Ross et al. The concentration of testosterone and cortisol in saliva was determined by radioimmunoassay (Coat-a-Count for testosterone and the Gammacoat (125) Cortisol Radioimmunoassay Kit) in Reference Laboratory. The wrestler of Leonese Wrestling form a population with some well defined anthropometric characteristics; with broad hips and shoulders within a well-balanced physique being especially noticeable. The analysis of the results would indicate that the Futrex 5,000 Model A (Spectrophotometry by near infrared) overestimates significantly (p<0.01) the % of body fat upon comparison with the Skin Fold method. Likewise the results of Futrex, 5,000 Model A with regard to the level of hydration bears no relation to the intensity of exercise, with results being contradictory at times. The data obtained after competition indicate a significant increase (p<0.001) in cortisol (wrestlers 73.94% and runners 78.24%) and in testosterone (wrestlers 20.62% and runners 52.91%). Verf.-Referat
