Abstract des Autors
Muscle glycogen and blood-borne glucose are important substrates for ATP resynthesis in contracting skeletal muscle during prolonged exercise. In addition, their metabolism can produce lactate, an important gluconeogenic and oxidative substrate. The magnitude of muscle glycogenolysis and glucose uptake during exercise will be determined primarily by exercise intensity and duration. Further influences include exercise mode, training status, diet, environmental conditions, and gender. The regulation of skeletal muscle carbohydrate metabolism involves the interplay between local exercise-induced alterations in muscle calcium, inorganic phosphate and metabolites, hormonal control, and substrate availability, so that muscle glycogenolysis and glucose uptake are enhanced to meet the increased metabolic demands of exercise.
