The purpose of the study was to assess the correlation between the ejection fraction of the left ventricle and the fitness and the results of rehabilitation treatment and its model in patients with ischaemic heart disease. After echocardiographic assessment of the ejection fraction in 62 males after acute myocardial infarction and/or aortocoronary bypass the material was divied into groups: IHD-A - 32 males, mean age 53.5+/-8.6 with EF below 40%, and IHD-B - 30 males, mean age 52.8+/-9.3 with EF above 50%. The patients received rehabilitation treatment according to model A or B depending on the results of the preliminary exercise test. Before rehabilitation treatment the fitness of the patients was not different in these groups. After this treatment a highly significant rise of fitness was noted in both groups, without any difference between the groups. No linear correlation was found between the ejection fraction and the fitness and fitness rise after the treatment. In patients with slight or medium reduction of this fraction this parameter was not highly useful for the selection of rehabilitation programme. Verf.-Referat
