Abstract des Autors

This paper reviews research that analyzes teaching behaviors in physical education and dance. It also assesses college dance teachers' use of imagery. Fifteen dance classes, jazz and modern, were included in this study. Each videotape was analyzed using the Systematic Observation Instrument. Comparisons were made between teachers, class level, class type, and month of class in each imagery category studied. Differences for the teachers' use of imagery, for the use of imagery in beginning as compared to intermediate classes, and for the use of imagery in jazz as compared to modern dance classes were calculated. A correlation of values was also included in the results of this study. As a result, the teachers showed differences in terms of their choice of imagery, using more imagery in intermediate and modern dance classes. The teachers also used more direct imagery and more visual imagery. Verf.-Referat
