Abstract des Autors

This study analyzes the effect of a marathon race on the metabolite pattern of the rectus femoris muscle of marathon runners by means of phosphorus-31 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (31P-NMR). Spectra of six subjects at rest were collected before the race, within 2-6 h, and also six days after the marathon. The inorganic phosphate (Pi) increased immediately after the race in all but one case and did not return to control values for some subjects even after six days. Accordingly, 31P-NMR spectroscopy may be uniquely embodied to noninvasively monitor the existence of muscular damage following prolonged exercise. Verf.-Referat
