Abstract des Autors

Evaluation of young athletes prior to competition is an art in evolution. The primary objective is to minimize injury and death that would not have occurred but for the child's athletic participation. As in any evolutionary process, the techniques are becoming more specialized and refined over time. This might lead to exhaustive examinations by multiple sub-specialists if not for the ever present constraints of time and expense. Consequently, everypart of the examination must be justified. The orthopaedic screening must strive to identify those abnormalities which are most likely to result in injury and to thoroughly examine those areas that could result in catastrophic injury, no matter how unlikely.
