Abstract des Autors

This study investigated what changes or contributions are required to improve coincidence anticipation timing performance in baseball batting. Ten subjects participated in a month-long experiment. Their task was to swing a bat such that it coincided with an apparent movement target at an "impact point". The subjects were required to hold their mean absolute error of twenty swings within 30 ms at two velocities (36 m/s and 28 m/s) presented at random. It was found that the subject who improved his performance did not always decrease his movement time and that the best subjects could compensate for their swings. Results of this study suggest that hastening the start of motion is the primary factor for improvement under insufficient time and unsettled conditions. It is also found that compensation for premature swings by lengthening the movement time is a crucial factor. This study does not recognize the importance of consistent movements and shortening the movement time. Verf.-Referat
