Abstract des Autors

The purpose of the study was to observe and quantify the electromyographic (EMG) and kinematic differences between free and paddles swimming in front crawl. Electrical activity of 5 muscles of the upper limb was recorded with a telemetric system. Lateral subaquatic views were obtained simultaneously. Results showed that the use of the paddles increased the total time of the stroke without altering the temporal division of the phases of the stroke. A greater hip displacement per stroke was also observed with the use of the paddles. EMG results indicated similar intensity through the different tests. The M. triceps brachii had the greatest activity while the M. biceps brachii displayed the lowest one. Verf.-Referat
