abstract The effect of creatine-enriched diet on creatine accumulation in skeletal muscles and in the liver was studied in male Wistar rats divided in 4 groups: control (A), electrostimulated (B), given creatine-enriched diet alone (C) or together with muscle electrostimulation (D). Muscle electrostimulation (A.C. 50 Hz, 30-40mV) was conducted daily. On Day 6 or 9, rats were sacrificed and total protein and creatine were determined in white and red portions of the gastrocnemius muscle, liver and serum. In the muscle, also saline-soluble and myofibrillar proteins were determined. Dietary creatine has been found not to affect its accumulation in the muscle but electrostimulation induced an increase of the total creatine content in the body. Simultaneous electrostimulation and creatine ingestion in the diet increased creatine accumulation in muscles, its blood levels being unaffected and its biosynthesis in the liver decreased. Creatine-enriched diet and/or muscle electrostimulation induced an increased content of myofibrillar proteins in muscles. Verf.-Referat
