Abstract des Autors
There is a high incidence of hypertension in patients with end stage renal insufficiency or kidney transplantation. This contributes to the major causes of mortality, myocardial infarction and stroke. Hypertension is also an important side effect of erythropoietin treatment. A hypertensive (H) and a non-hypertensive group (N) participated in endurance training over several months. Pathological increases in blood pressure, heart rate, and heart rate-pressure product during exercise were significantly lowered. Performance increased by 33% in H and by 18% in N. One hemodialysis patient with hypertension was evaluated while doing exercises before and during erythopoietin therapy. The work load sustained increased by 100% over the one year period, while blood pressure, both at rest and during exercise, decreased. Endurance training may be beneficial to the caridovascular system subjected to the stress of everyday life. Verf.-Referat
