Abstract des Autors

In order to quantify the blood pressure (BP) during exercise by measuring the BP immediately after exercise, 10 normotensive coronary patients (55.5+/-6.6 years) underwent a cycle ergometry in sitting position (starting at 50 W, increasing by 25 W every 3 min with 1 min break after each step). BP was measured during (beginning of 3rd min) and immediately after each step. From 125 W/75 W upwards, the systolic/diastolic BP was significantly higher during exercise than after. On the maximal step (178+/-35 W), BP during exercise was 187+/- 26/86+/-8 mmHg, compared to 174+/-29/78+/-8 mmHg after exercise (p<0.01). The diastolic BP taken after exercise showed no essential increase during the step test. In conclusion, even under the best measurement conditions, BP values taken immediately after exercise are expected to be under-estimated by about 10%, depending on the intensity of the exercise.
