Abstract des Autors

Reliable knowledge on the correlation between exercise pattern and adaptations of the performance-determining functional systems is a necessary precondition to improve the training concepts for the development of endurance-related capacities. This study presents the results of a longitudinal analysis of performance diagnostic data and selected exercise parameters collected from 10 top road cyclists over a period from 1980 to 1989. Within the program of complex performance diagnostics, a standardized ergometer test with incremental load was administered 6 times a year. An increase in maximal performance, an improved potential in the aerobic-anaerobic transition, and distinct long-term adaptations in the cardiopulmonary system were found. The results reveal considerable interindividual differences in adaptability and the control level of the functional systems studied. Limits of adaptability cannot be seen. Verf.-Referat
