Ophthalmological injuries that occur during various athletic activities are classified and evaluated according to their incidence, age, cause, and sequence. According to the results, eye injuries due to athletic activity are relatively rare and without aftereffects when compared with eye injuries due to other causes. Severe injuries that involve the posterior segments which decrease visual acuity are mostly caused by compression injuries by a ball. The treatment and prognosis - especially with regard to visual acuity - are presented after describing the results of the various injuries in each segment of the eye. Preventive measures are discussed as well as the preventive role of eyeguard during sports activity and its risks. Verf.-Referat
