Abstract des Autors

Elite rowers (38 men and 8 women) and kayakers (male: 38 conventional kayakers, 10 slalom kayakers and 19 canoeists, and 15 female kayakers), members of national representations, were subjected to anthropometric measurements. The data were standardized in order to construct multivariate profiles and compute body build factors characterizing the respective sports. The leading factor for rowers proved body length, followed by musculature, skeleton robustness and skeletal frame breadth. The leading factor for kayakers proved musculature, followed by skeleton robustness, while body length factor ranked much lower. The differences between rowers and kayakers in body build factors was due predominantly to selection of subjects exhibiting somatic traits most appropriate with respect to the construction of boats or kayaks and to the rowing technique.
