Abstract des Autors
Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the metacarpal head is considered a rare entity. Although first described by Dietrich in 1932, less than 30 cases of AVN of the metacarpal head have been reported in the literature. All of the metacarpals may be affected, yet AVN has been most commonly described in the second and third metacarpal heads. In this report we describe a case of AVN involving the third and fourth metacarpal heads in the dominant hand of a world-class shot-putter and discuss the possible pathomechanics of its development.
