Abstract des Autors

This paper demonstrates that the distribution of the marginal product of baseball players as measured by their performance, is not distributed in a manner that corresponds to the distribution of their income. By using a new method for comparing these distributions it is possible to make inferences concerning the differences between the distributions of player incomes and marginal products. From these differences it can be seen that salaries for journeymen players that are not eligible reflect a degree of monopolistic exploitation which is not present when players become eligible for free agency. In addition, a comparison of the distributions of black and white player salaries reveal a preference for mediocre white players over mediocre black players. Verf.-Referat
