Abstract des Autors

In competitive road cycling the question arises whether the pedaling technique can be improved by giving relevant information to the athlete. Pedal forces were measured, processed in a PC and then monitored in realtime to the athlete. 12 competitive road cyclists performed a feedback test on a treadmill. The parameters presented were tangential force, radial force and the ratio between the tangential component and the resultant pedal force. At constant power output (200 W) during 15 minutes the index of effectiveness increased from 50% to 60% (p<0.05). It is more difficult to reduce radial forces than to optimoze tangential forces. The highest improvement within the pedal cycle was detected in the pull-up zone (62%) followed by the zone of bottom dead center (15%). Verf.-Referat
