Abstract

In the firm studied in this paper, sport is practised by the employees and managed by an association which is subsidized by the work's council. The study of the employers' strategies will allow to determine the stakes. The analysis of the social and professional distribution of the sports population in the Breguet-Dassault factory enables us to distinguish two groups which mark specifically the sports project: the workers and the technicians. The mass phenomenon tends to provide a greater attendance of the workers, yet, the study of the indexes of representativeness emphasizes the overrepresentativeness of the technicians. Finally, the sports practices, the ways of practising (alone or with the family) and the social categories all combine. The study of the family practices and the analysis of 4 sports such as rugby, pelota, skiing and tennis enable us to understand the social phenomena which are at work. The sport which is practised on a large scale by the workers is pelota. Nevertheless, the sport which regroups 34.06% of the employees is a mass activity which urges us to ask ourselves about the possible effect of meetings thus created between the social classes that the universe organized into a hierarchy in the factory has divided.
