Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the cardiorespiratory responses during exercise for young children. Heart rate responses during circuit exercise were monitored using Heart Rates Memory Apparatus (Takei Ins. CO. Japan), for 14 boys and 9 girls ages of 6 years. Handgrip strength, back strength, standing broad jump, 25 m dash, tennis ball throw, and maximum oxygen intake were measured in each subject. Maximum oxygen intake was measured using Douglas bag method when the subjects run one minute with maximum effort after 180 m warming up run. Circuit exercise consisted of hanging down bars, jangle gym, sliding board, hang down rings, fort, slope which were settled in the play ground of the kindergarten. The subjects run the circuit course in 4 min to 7.5 min. The average heart rates during exercise were 188.3 beats/min for boys and 188.6 beats/min for girls. The level of heart rate were highest in the group of best performance (shortest time in the circuit course). There is some tendency for boys that the better the performance, the higher is the level of heart rates. The significant correlations were observed between performance time in circuit exercise and 25 m dash, maximum oxygen intake, and standing broad jump respectively. Maximum heart rates during circuit exercise were correlated to the maximum heart rates during running for the measurement of maximum oxygen intake. Verf.-Referat
