Abstract

Two studies are reported respecting the interrelation of running speed and the quality of mental processes. In the first study, 14 qualified orienteers (7 males and 7 females) took part in a stepwise increased treadmill velocity test. In one minutes intervals between the steps controls had to be transferred from a master map. Best results both in number and accuracy were obtained at a speed corresponding to the anaerobic threshold speed. In the second study, 17 orienteers (10 males, 7 females) performed arithmetical tasks before and after a work out treadmill test. This test was repeated four times within one year. Performance was significantly better after all work-out tests than before and increased in the course of the year. This gives support to the contention that qualified orienteers develop high psychic stamina against fatigue caused by running. Verf.-Referat
